A follow-up project to the Geek Motherboard, this was definitely a tougher project for me and for several reasons. For one, I was no longer constrained to the relatively flat depth and streamlined geometry of a modern motherboard. I knew this piece had to look much older and the research was extensive. Steampunk has a pretty broad definition and I wanted to avoid just slapping a bunch of gears together. In the Victorian-era, technology was often celebrated with lots of ornamental accents. My main objective was a design that seemed mechanically plausible, full of specific details and mysterious purpose. Project included thousands of layers, and a 3GB final composite Photoshop file at 7200 x 5400 pixels.
